Design Journey

Perched on Nob Hill diagonally opposite of Grace Cathedral, the Cathedral Co-Op with its exquisite porte-cochère exudes the elegance and style synonymous with the timeless San Francisco Lifestyle.

Our assignment from the HOA Board was to infuse new energy into this architectural gem while cherishing and respecting its rich legacy. Built in 1930 by Weeks & Day, The Cathedral Co-Op is among an iconic and prestigious group of Nob Hill mansions, including the Mark Hopkins Hotel, the Huntington Hotel, and the Brocklebank Apartments. Envision a bygone golden era of film and romance…in fact, Alfred Hitchcock filmed the Maltese Falcon in The Cathedral Co-Op. Our work included on-site meetings with renowned Architectural and San Francisco Historians. With a nod to Addison Mizner, the Mediterranean Colonial-style lobby deserved and received a curated rejuvenation. Our approach was crystal clear: respect “legacy” pieces, repurpose “key” items, and safeguard “appreciated” heirlooms. Unexpected problems were tackled, budgets re-aligned, and staying the course became our mantra. Our enthusiastic team included some of the most esteemed artisans, restorers, lighting consultants, and premier ateliers in the country. We proudly brought the Cathedral Co-Op back to life for its next 100 years.
